You’ll be relieved to hear that this is where our team of experts can help guide you on what is the best product for your home within the boundaries of your budget.

Flooring is a vital part of any interior transformation as it can easily make or break your envisioned space. While we take a lot of information in visually, flooring is also the first physical contact we make and so it can have a lasting impact.

Regardless of which style you have chosen for your room we have carpets and flooring that will complement it beautifully. Pricing, quality and style are what shapes most of the decision making process, but we also pride ourselves on our first class fitting service.

The best way to choose flooring or carpet is to come into either our Montrose or Carnoustie showrooms to have a look at the full selection available. We can then arrange a free estimate appointment, where Derek or Gary will pop out to your property to get the measurements required to provide you with an accurate quote.

Flooring and carpets have been the backbone of our business since we began so we are able to use our experience to help guide you to the perfect solution. We will always recommend that you take a selection of samples home so that you can see the product in location and under your own lighting.

Carpets

We showcase all the leading manufacturers of carpets in both of our showrooms and have a selection of stock carpets that are available for express fitting.

When considering carpet the keys things to consider are:

  • Do you prefer wool or man-made fibres?
  • What type of carpet pile do you like the look of? Loop, Saxony,Twist, Textured, Frieze, Velvet cut etc.
  • What room are you redecorating?
  • What is the traffic like in your house?
  • Do you have pets, or young children?
  • Do you want to make a statement with your carpet? Or do you want to provide a neutral setting for the room?

How you answer these considerations will help guide your decision making and cut down the confusion you could face when buying a new carpet.

Confused about whether you’d like a man-made or wool carpet? Read our blog article which weighs up some considerations.

It typically takes 3-14 days from order to installation of your selected carpet, and depends on the timescale of delivery and availability of our fitting staff. As soon as your new carpet arrives into our warehouse, you will receive a call to book in a suitable fitting date.

  • We are proud to be members of The Carpet Foundation, giving you assurance that we operate to the highest standards of practice in our industry, and can offer you the best advice when it comes to your floor coverings.

Do I Need Underlay?

When fitting your desired carpet, we recommend laying an underlay so as to protect the longevity of your carpet while also providing a more luxurious feeling underfoot.

As standard we fit the Tredaire 9mm Softwalk, it has great thermal and acoustic deafening properties and is suitable for any area in your home.

We do have other qualities available to suit a range of budgets or requirements. Just ask one of our team.

Flooring

Carpet isn’t always the right flooring solution for every room, so you’ll be delighted to know that we also stock a huge collection of hard flooring options including; vinyl, real wood, laminate, engineered flooring and luxury vinyl tile.

You want something that looks good, but will also stand up to the job. A flooring material that works well in your bathroom with water resistant properties, might not work as well in your hallway, where you have a high volume of traffic.

Once you’ve had a chance to look through our selection, we encourage you to take home a short-list of samples so that you can see them in their intended surroundings.

In order to provide you with an accurate quote, we would arrange for either Gary or Derek to visit your property.

Vinyl Flooring

Over the past half century vinyl has evolved so much not only in the variety of designs available but also in the material that it is made from. Their popularity has surpassed that of traditional wood or tile, due to its durability and reduction in cost.

We supply and fit three different styles of vinyl products:

Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring
Often recognised more by its brand names, of which we stock Moduleo and Karndean. LVT is made up of 4 layers; a resilient vinyl backing, a vinyl colour layer, a photographic film layer and then a urethane or aluminium oxide top layer all fused together under heat and pressure. It is often confused with laminate, however is constructed completely differently. Created originally for the commercial industry, it is extremely durable making it perfect for any room in your house.

Advanced photographic and printing technologies make LVT a great alternative to wood, ceramic and stone with its natural appearance and textured surface. You can enjoy the classic appearance without the maintenance, or stain worries. Additional advantages are that LVT is both water and slip resistant, while also being compatible with underfloor heating for that ultimate luxury feel.

Luxury Vinyl Click Flooring
There are two different installation styles with LVT; glue down or click. Both styles require a smooth surface and at the measurement appointment we can assess whether a screed or plyboard subfloor will be required. ‘Glue-down’ as you can imagine uses an adhesive to stick the tiles in place making it a more permanent fixture for your room. The ‘Click’ flooring system is slightly more flexible, as it uses a tongue and groove technology to hold the planks in place; meaning, that should you have a plumbing issue you can access it easily without having to make any flooring repairs.

We Scotland’s no.1 retailer of Moduleo flooring and have recently invested in a state of the art studio in our Carnoustie store, showcasing the variety and quality on offer. Our Montrose shop also stocks a wide selection of both Karndean and Moduleo and we can bring samples along to your estimate appointment.

Cushion Vinyl
Cushion vinyl, sometimes referred to as Lino is a great affordable flooring solution which is water resistant and durable due to its tough protective coating. The cushioned material provides a warm and comfortable feel underfoot, allowing you to enjoy the style of a classic wood or tile design without the chill factor.

Our cushion vinyl comes in a sheet form and is generally loose laid by our fitters onto a smooth surface below. Available in a host of designs, it is moisture resistant and seamless making it ideal for bathrooms, hallways and kitchens.

Real Wood

Real wood flooring is a 100% natural product, and is ideal for adding character to your home. Available in materials such as oak, walnut, maple and bamboo it’s lifespan could live to over 100 years.

Real wood is not recommended for bathrooms and kitchens due to its contracting nature when in contact with moisture. However, is ideal for heavy traffic areas as any marks can be sanded down or oiled to display the flooring as good as new again.

Discreet nailing is the traditional flooring installation method as it allows for the floors to expand and contract, this prevents them warping over time. Some solid wood floors can be glued down as long as the sub floor is well prepared and moisture is minimised through use of a damp-proof membrane.

Engineered Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is made up of layers of ply, bonded together with the top layer being made of solid wood veneer which gives it a convincingly real wood appearance.

All of our engineered flooring is prefinished so it’s ready to walk on as soon as it has been laid, avoiding any need for waxing or oiling.

Engineered flooring is resilient in humid environments so it can be used with underfloor heating, however is less durable in high traffic areas. It can be sanded down to remove marks, however as only the top layer is solid wood this can only be done once or twice.

When it comes to installation, engineered wood flooring can be fitted by a click mechanism, glued down or nailed. The method used will depend on the product chosen and the condition & temperature of the room that it is being installed in.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is made from a multi-layer synthetic product fused together during the lamination process. It is fitted using a tongue & groove mechanism, with an acoustic rubber underlay placed below it to protect the material from moisture, retain heat and most importantly reduce noise.
Laminate is extremely easy to clean and is impressively scratch resistant, ideal if you have pets. When compared to real or engineered wood it comes in less expensive, and there are certain collections that are treated so as to make them water resistant.
Our collection of laminates come from Berry Alloc who we have used for over 10 years. They have collections that include extra long and wide planks which can make a room look more spacious. Pop into either of our stores to take a look at the collection on offer, and to arrange an estimate appointment.

Customer Story: Julie Simpson – Arbirlot

“The team at Millers were so understanding, they listened to my problems and were so accommodating when it came to working alongside the new tradesmen.

My house is fairly open plan with oak doors and a matching central staircase, I was confused about what to do with colours as I couldn’t seem to find a match. Gary came out one evening with a selection of contrasting colours and helped me through the process”
