Customer Story: Debbie Roberts
Debbie Roberts bought her dream house 13 years ago, but it was only when her young family were slightly older and she had the time and energy to focus on creating a Pinterest worthy home that she began carrying out big renovations 2 and a half years ago.
Part of the problem was that she knew exactly what she wanted in her mind but actually turning her vision into reality seemed like a bit of an uphill struggle. Pulling together the interior design for a whole house is no easy task, especially when you have to factor in small children with grubby hands and a puppy with muddy paws!
However, after trying other larger stores Debbie remembered the excellent service she received 12 years ago when she replaced the bathroom carpet with new flooring. She decided to return to Millers and hasn’t looked back since. She describes the service they provide as having a personal shopper, reminiscent of a 1950’s department store and credits Gary and his team with helping her achieve the style and look she’d always wanted.

“It’s just like having a personal shopper like you would have seen in a department store in the 1950s. It’s not just a commercial transaction, but a relationship built up with each new item of furniture.”

It all started with flooring

When Debbie decided to start her renovations by putting down new flooring throughout the house she initially went to all the big stores to see what they could offer. However, she found it difficult to decide between so many different options and what would work for her and her family. It all seemed like too big a decision without some professional advice and she disliked the pressure she felt under to make up her mind and buy something as quickly as possible.

After having visited pretty much all the big retailers she popped into Millers on the off chance they could do something different. She immediately warmed to the personal service and lack of hard sell but most importantly that Gary took the time to ask questions about her family and what the flooring would have to withstand. For example, would her children be coming in with bikes and muddy boots and was it an area of high traffic.

Together her and Gary came up with the right flooring for her lifestyle and she went with
a distinctive herringbone pattern as per his recommendation. This is really different and adds a certain style to her home which she loves. When she had a small flood in her kitchen sometime later, Gary replaced the flooring like for like.

“Before we started the renovation I bought loads of interior design magazines to try and find my style but somehow just couldn’t get it to all pull together.”

During lockdown Debbie’s daughter needed a new bed.
There was no hard sell. The bed was fit for purpose and not wildly expensive. Delivery followed all the Government COVID-19 protocols and arrived quickly.
At the same time Debbie remembered a blue velvet armchair she had seen in the showroom sometime earlier. The showroom was closed but Gary dropped it off for her to try out for a few days. This really was above and beyond what you would expect from other furniture stores and she says allowed her to see whether the chair was right for the room or would have ended up being a very expensive mistake. It has been one of her favourite purchases so far and really makes her living room pop, alongside the mustard sofa bought from Millers.

Again, when it came to lighting Debbie went straight to Millers and did not even bother trying any other shops. Gary came out to Debbie’s house and took into consideration things like natural light coming in, which rooms were being used for what and then made detailed suggestions on what would work best.
This type of service is over and above what you would expect but again, just gives that reassurance that you are buying and installing the right products for your lifestyle.

Debbie also ordered her kitchen from Millers after trying all the bigger high street names.
The difference she found between the suppliers was the interest Millers took in where she needed everything in her kitchen to be to make her life easier as opposed to just telling her where everything, traditionally, should go.
Miller’s kitchen designer took the time to speak to the family and establish how the kitchen would be used and where best to place drawers and what style cupboards would suit Debbie’s style. The large clock from Millers adds a quirky touch. The herringbone flooring was installed in the kitchen too and seamlessly flows into the next room tying the two rooms together.

The bathroom flooring was the first purchase from Millers many years ago, 12 years to be exact and yet it looks as good today as it did when first installed.
“Everything I have bought has been very good quality, delivered & installed on time and all packaging removed after each installation. I have received excellent customer service and I would say that if you value your time then don’t waste it trawling the shops just pop in to Millers, you won’t be disappointed”.
Practicality is usually the priority when thinking about a utility room but when Debbie saw the range of vinyl tile flooring in the showroom she knew it would create a wow factor. The vinyl tiles can be laid in many different ways and Gary, once again, dropped off samples so Debbie could see which design looked best in the room. The utility room flooring is both practical and beautiful.

Choosing the living room carpet could have been a difficult task, it needed to be hard wearing, easily maintained and yet luxurious underfoot. Gary and the team helped Debbie choose a wool carpet with flecks of colour that co-ordinate beautifully with the colours in the soft furnishings.
Debbie found the perfect lamps, tables, candle holders and blinds to accessorise her home from Millers, a true ‘one stop shop’!
A bed was next on the list and after getting expert advice from the Millers team a very comfortable bed was delivered quickly and all packaging taken away. The bedroom carpet matches the living carpet.
“I like how you are recognised when you call the store and they remember everything about you.”
